Tyre Repairs
Repairs are only acceptable in the tread crown under size limits — never the sidewall. Australian standards (AS 1973) define plugs, patches, and combination repairs qualified technicians should follow.
When repair is OK
Small punctures in the central tread, no secondary damage, adequate remaining tread, and tyres not driven flat to destruction.
When to replace
Sidewall punctures, large holes, separated belts, run-flats driven zero-pressure beyond limits, or internal scuffing from underinflation.
Legal and insurance
Substandard string plugs without internal patch can fail — use reputable shops.
