Tyre Load Rating & Tyre Speed Rating

Load index is a numerical code for maximum load per tyre at rated pressure. Speed symbol is the maximum sustained speed the tyre is certified for — not a target speed, but a heat-resistance rating.

Load index

Higher numbers mean more carrying capacity. For dual-axle trailers or utes near GVM, margins matter. Never run below placard minimum.

Speed rating

Common symbols run from Q (160 km/h) through Y and above for ultra-high-performance tyres. Mixing ratings across an axle is poor practice; consult a specialist if you must deviate.

Pressure ties to load

Maximum load assumes correct inflation. Underinflation lowers effective capacity and builds heat.
