Your Tyre Load Rating Explained

Load index translates to a maximum mass per tyre at the rated pressure printed on the sidewall. Exceeding it risks blowouts, especially in heat.

How to use the chart

Each index maps to kilograms (e.g. 91 = 615 kg per tyre). Multiply by four for a rough car maximum — then remember weight distribution is not even corner to corner.

Extra Load (XL) tyres

XL markings allow higher pressure and load at the same size — common on modern performance and EV platforms with heavy battery mass.

Trailers and caravans

Aggregate trailer mass must sit comfortably under the combined tyre capacity with realistic tyre pressures checked cold.
