Is your pink or blue slip vehicle inspection due anytime soon? It is easy to forget they expire — usually at the most inconvenient times.
What is a pink slip?
A pink slip or e-safety check is a safety inspection report required in NSW for all registered vehicles. If your car is older than five years, this is a registration renewal requirement.
If your car fails the inspection and you are not issued a pink slip, you need to get your vehicle repaired and up to specification.
Try to get rectification done within two weeks so you can be re-inspected for your pink slip at no extra charge in many cases. If you are re-inspected longer than a fortnight apart, you may need to pay for another pink slip application.
Pink slips are only valid for six months from the date of issue — plan around your registration renewal date.
What is a blue slip?
A blue slip is an authorised unregistered vehicle safety check — similar to a pink slip but for vehicles that have lapsed registration, were previously registered in another state, or for imported cars.
It is more in-depth, checking for leaks, suspension issues, electrical problems and more. Blue slip inspections can help identify stolen vehicles with fraudulent plates and verify whether major repairs have affected compliance with manufacturer standards.
Blue slips are only valid for 28 days after being issued. If you do not pass the initial inspection, repairs must be completed before a blue slip can be issued.
