A Complete Guide to Wheel Alignment

Wheel alignment is the adjustment of suspension angles so all four wheels point the right way relative to each other and the road. Poor alignment wastes fuel, destroys tyres, and can make the car wander or pull.

Signs you need an alignment

Steering wheel off-centre when driving straight, pulling to one side, uneven shoulder wear, or vague steering after hitting a kerb or pothole are common clues.

What technicians adjust

Toe (whether wheels point slightly in or out), camber (tilt in/out at the top), and caster (steering axis angle) are checked against manufacturer specifications. Some cars have limited rear adjustability.

When to book

After new tyres, suspension repairs, or any hard knock. Many drivers align every 12 months or 20,000 km as preventive maintenance.

Pro tip

Alignment does not balance wheels — if you feel vibration at speed, ask for a balance check too.
