Do My Tyres Need Balancing? A Wheel Balancing Guide

Balancing corrects uneven mass distribution so the wheel spins smoothly at highway speeds. Unbalanced assemblies shake the steering wheel, stress suspension, and cup the tread.

Do my tyres need balancing?

New tyres should always be balanced on installation. Rebalancing is needed if weights fall off, you feel vibration that speeds up with road speed, or tyres are rotated and a shimmy appears.

Static vs dynamic balance

Modern shops use dynamic balancers that correct both sides of the rim. Stick-on or clip-on weights are placed precisely to cancel wobble.

Not the same as alignment

Balancing fixes rotation; alignment fixes direction. Both can be needed together after a big hit.
