How Old Are Your Tyres?

Tyre age starts at manufacture, not purchase date. Rubber ages in the warehouse and on the car — heat and ozone accelerate it.

Find the DOT week

Locate the DOT stamp; the last four numbers are WWYY. If only three digits, the tyre predates 2000 — replace immediately for road use.

Service life guidance

Five years: inspect yearly. Ten years: replace for most on-road use regardless of appearance, unless a specialist approves limited service.

Garage queens and trailers

Low mileage does not freeze chemistry. Caravan tyres often need replacement from age while tread looks new.
