Is It Safe To Mix Tyres?
Mixing brands or models is sometimes unavoidable short term, but mixing constructions, sizes, or heavily different tread depths — especially on AWD — can damage drivelines and unsettle handling.
Same axle: keep twins matched
Diameter differences force open diffs and viscous couplings to work constantly. Manufacturer tolerances are small — often a few millimetres of rolling radius.
Front vs rear
Some staggered setups are factory; otherwise prefer four tyres of the same model for predictable limit handling.
Winter / temporary spares
Space-savers are speed- and distance-limited. Replace or repair the primary tyre promptly.
