Tyre Ratings & Tyre Markings Explained
Sidewall markings identify size, service type, load/speed, wear/temperature/traction (UTQG where applicable), DOT plant and date, and symbols like M+S or mountain/snowflake.
Service description
P-metric vs LT vs ST (special trailer) tells you which vehicle class the tyre was optimised for. Putting passenger tyres on overloaded utes is a common mistake.
Run-flat and reinforced
RF, ROF, ZP, or XL indicate construction differences that affect inflation tables and rim compatibility.
Regulatory marks
E-mark or DOT certify compliance for their markets. Always buy tyres from reputable channels so markings are genuine.
