What is Hydroplaning And What Can You Do To Prevent It?
Hydroplaning happens when a wedge of water lifts the tyre from the road. Speed, tread depth, water depth, and inflation all matter.
Prevention
Maintain deep tread, reduce speed in standing water, avoid sudden steering inputs, and keep tyres properly inflated.
If it happens
Ease throttle, straighten steering gently, and wait for grip to return — do not stab the brakes if ABS is pulsing unpredictably.
Tread patterns
Directional tyres with open channels resist aquaplaning better than worn symmetric blocks.
