How to Change a Tyre in 10 Steps
Practice once in your driveway so a roadside flat is not your first attempt. Always work on level, firm ground away from traffic.
1. Hazard lights on, park brake, chock opposite wheel
2. Retrieve spare, jack, and tools
3. Loosen wheel nuts slightly while weight is on the tyre
4. Jack at manufacturer points only — consult manual
5. Remove nuts, swap wheel, hand-start all studs
6. Lower until tyre touches, torque nuts in star pattern
7. Fully lower, final torque with wrench
8. Stow flat, check spare pressure soon
9. Drive cautiously if space-saver — observe speed limit
10. Visit a fitter for repair or replacement
Pro tip
Carry disposable gloves — roadside wheels are filthy.
